Vacationing In Frances Sensual City Of Paris

If you are planning to visit Europe then you must stay at least a couple of days in one of its largest cities, Paris; sitting astride either side of the river Seine it is one of the world's most popular cities. Paris short stays are very popular and for good reason as it makes a superb location for a romantic weekend; you will however, discover that more time is required to fully appreciate what it has to offer.

It is famous for many famous buildings and locations; it has much to offer visitors who adore culture, even if it is only for a long weekend. Visitors to Paris as well as its citizens can travel around Paris easily; there is an excellent underground system called the Metro which runs regular trains into the city center and is very easy to understand.

At almost 1,000 feet high, the Eiffel Tower is an impressive sight; it's visible throughout most of the city but the views from the top of this huge steel structure are even more impressive. In the evening the illumination means it can be seen for many miles; taking a tour at the same time will teach you much more about this remarkable structure.

On your Paris trip ensure you add the famous Champs Elysees to your list of places to visit; it's where you will find all the top class hotels, shops and restaurants. This is considered a more exclusive and busy area of the city; the exclusive five star hotels situated in this more select part of the city might be out of most visitors' price range.

This city is also the home to the renowned Louvre Museum; it holds in excess of 300,000 pieces of art, which cannot possibly be seen in a single visit. Even on a short stay in Paris, this is a an art lovers paradise; approximately 8 million visitors a year come to see the Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa, both of which are on display. What makes Paris special is the number of artists that have been attracted to this great capital; many of whom left large collections of their paintings here like Monet and Picasso.

Of course, Napoleon commissioned the construction of the Arc de Triomphe, another Paris landmark; to honor his generals (and his troops) he had their names inscribed upon it. A little known fact is that there's a viewing observatory built into the building allowing the whole area to be viewed; including all the avenues of which it is a focal point.

Of course this article can only give a small sample of places to visit; there are plenty of others to keep you occupied but to make the most of your time, use one of the guided tours. It's an unfortunate fact that a Paris short stay vacation will only include some of the attractions; anything else on your 'to see' list can wait for your next trip.
